PLANO RUGBY ALUMNI COMMUNICATIONS
As the Plano Rugby Community continues to grow it has become a challenge to keep up with contact details as ex-players move on through college then move to work elsewhere. Email addresses change and we begin to lose valid cell numbers as well. If you did not receive a text message it is because your cell number has changed. If you did not receive an email, it is because your email is no longer valid. Please forward any changed cell phone or email details to info@planorugby.org, so we can update our records and keep you in the communication loop. Also indicate where you are and whether you are still playing rugby.
Check our Alumni section http://planorugby.com/alumni on the web for any Plano Rugby news and also our Plano Rugby Alumni Face book https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=plano%20rugby%20alumni.
THE PLANO RUGBY CLUB – THE NEXT GENERATION?
This year we will complete our 17th year as a club!
We have grown our club to be the premier and largest youth rugby club not only in north Texas but in the USA.
We are now running our own rugby recreation leagues for players in grades 1-6, where we can field up to three teams per bracket (Under 11s and Under 13s) so as not to be dependent on having local opposition or having to travel long distances to play matches.”
Our players come from 70 different schools from all over Collin County and beyond representing 17 ISDs!
We have a growing girls program and our Plano Girls Varsity team won the High School Girls Texas State Championship in 2014 and won the Girls league and was runner up in the State championships 2015. At the younger ages we have several girls playing in our co-ed teams.
We have over twenty parent coaches and team managers currently assisting. We are looking for the next generation of coaches, referees and administrators to come from our Plano Rugby Alumni as well as providing a crop of new young players. Currently Plano Rugby Alumni Vijay Richard (2004), Moe Owens (2009) and Eric Hunchik (2009) are helping Frank with the coaching.
Yes Frank Waller and I are still involved in the activities of the club, but can’t be here forever!
Come on and get involved. Several of you must now have kids ready to play?!
PLANO RUGBY ALUMNI ORGANIZING COMMITTEE
To do a better job of keeping the link to our rugby old boys, we need to form a small committee that can attend to what needs to be done to continue to maintain this as a sustainable group. If you have any interest in being involved, especially with keeping current with contact details of teammates from your year, please let us know.
If you have any photos or interesting trivia from your Plano Rugby playing days or if you played in college or you represented a select team please let us know.
PLANO RUGBY SPONSORSHIP
We continue to strive for more awareness and visibility so that rugby is seen as a viable youth sport in the community. To this end we endeavor to keep fees low to be able to be on par with other sports and have to raise funds to subsidize our costs. Each year we scholarship a number of kids who would not otherwise be able to afford playing rugby.
If you’re able and willing to help donate towards fund raising please go to our web site and do so online through the Donate button at the bottom of the home page. http://planorugby.com/
PLANO RUGBY ALUMNI DEMOGRAPHICS
90 % of our Plano Rugby Alumni have gone on to attend around 50 different colleges in the USA. Many play or did play rugby at college although we don’t have an accurate count of all who did play. Several stayed local and played for local men’s clubs. Many have continued to play rugby post college. Here in the DFW area, we have Plano Rugby Alums representing almost all of the senior men’s clubs with a predominant number playing for the D.A.R.C. rugby club. A handful of our former players are scattered around the world in New Zealand, South Africa, France and Argentina.
Increasingly we are seeing rugby recruiters targeting our players and several Plano Rugby players have won significant scholarships to rugby colleges. We have players awarded rugby scholarships in the past couple of years at St. Marys University, CA, Lindenwood University, MO, Life University, GA, plus Arkansas State U, who provided our players in-state rugby tuition scholarships.
Hope to see many of you soon!
Cheers,
Nick (214 213-2837) and Frank (214-202-4207)
