Home to the largest youth Rugby Club in North Texas

Plano Rugby was established in 2000, originally catering to boys in 11th and 12th grade in order to compete in the Texas High School Rugby League. With the success of the program, we gradually expanded and are now the largest Youth Rugby Club in North Texas. We have teams for Kindergarten to 12th grade for in both boys and girls. Our mission is to provide instruction and guidance to new kids, as well as returning players around the great sport of rugby. We partner with Plano Sports Authority (PSA) who provide us with the facilities we need in the City of Plano. The concepts of sportsmanship, camaraderie, teamwork and fitness are core to the sport as well as our program, and we encourage new players with no experience to come out and give rugby a try!

The 2020 Rugby Season is almost here!

Our FREE pre-season "Open" Touch Rugby sessions will start at 10 am on Saturday November 9th, 2019 at Liberty Park in Plano. These sessions are a great way to get introduced to the game and meet other players/parents. Parents are welcome to join in as we help teach the basics of the game while having fun playing Touch Rugby with the kids. Open sessions will run through the end of the year as our practices will officially begin in January.

Rugby is a fast paced sport that is as fun to watch as it is to play. But its more than that, Rugby has a culture at its core that that is built around values. World Rugby lists integrity, passion, discipline, solidarity, and respect values that define the character of the sport. But its more that. Rugby is also a game about community. When you play rugby you are part of a community where everyone is welcome. At Plano Rugby Club we strive to built a community centered around sportsmanship, camaraderie, teamwork, respect, and fitness.

    Our Philosophy

We are a non-profit organization that is run by a group of retired rugby players who are passionate about the game and the opportunity to introduce the sport to the North Texas community. Our philosophy is to provide high quality coaching at the lowest cost of entry in order to build a growing Rugby community where everyone is welcome. Our elementary aged programs are centered around an “everyone plays’ philosophy that ensures that your child will get exposure to the coaching and game play to help them develop as well rounded athletes. It is our desire to see kids of all ages grow both as athletes on the filed and individuals off of it.

We partner with Plano Sports Authority (PSA) in order to provide quality facilities and fields along with USA Rugby which allows us to provide structured scheduling of games across the Texas Rugby community. The only equipment needed to play are soccer style rubber cleats, mouth-guard, rugby shorts and socks. We recommend Academy Sports for the soccer cleats and mouth-guard and provide the online link to purchase rugby shorts and socks.

Our Teams

K-2

(Co-Ed)

We start them young! We are seeing explosive growth in this age group and focus on teaching the basics of the game. We play 7 a side, touch rugby throughout the season and encourage boys and girls to come on out and have fun.

3rd & 4th

(Co-Ed)

Probably our fastest growing youth team, the 3rd and 4th grade team focuses on the basics of rugby including safe tackling techniques. We play 7 a side, tackle rugby throughout the season and encourage both boys and girls to come on out and have fun.

5th & 6th

(Co-Ed)

The 5th-6th grade team continues to focus on the basics of rugby and introduces the concepts of playing positions. We play 10 a side, tackle rugby through the season and encourage both boys and girls to come on out and have fun.

7th & 8th

(Girls play with parents permission)

Our 7th-8th grade team begins to bridge the gap from the younger brackets and segues to true 15 a side rugby union. Players are assigned positions and play as forward or backs. The 7th-8th grade teams practice at the same time as the High School team and we try to schedule games that align with the High School schedules.

Girls Varsity

Our girls high school team has seen tremendous success and we continue to see an increasing interest and expansion within the girls athletic community. They have won the Texas State Championship 4 times within the last 6 years and many of our girls have received full ride scholarship offers to continue to play rugby in Universities all over N. America. The girls team participates in the Rugby Texas High School league and play teams across Texas.

Boys JV/Varstiy

Our boys high school team is where it all started! We have separate JV and Varsity squads that participate in the Rugby Texas High School league and many of our players have received full ride scholarships to Universities across N. America. We have players who were introduced to the game through our program and have gone on to play professionally in Europe and Australia. The team has been consistently trained by our Head Coach, Frank Waller who also co-founded the club back in 2000. This proven program is the cornerstone of our club.
